Bioblitz – Middle School

A bioblitz is an event where people come together to find and identify as many species of living organisms as possible during a short period of time. This data is shared by other community scientists all over the world to explore and celebrate the amazing biodiversity on our planet.

Celebrate Earth Day by participating in the Conservancy Bioblitz from April 1- April 30!

Oh... and we have prizes!

That's right! To help celebrate Earth Day and your participation in the Conservancy Bioblitz, we will be awarding cool (REALLY COOL) prizes to the individuals that get out there and find the most species, the most unusual organisms, or just blow away the Conservancy's scientists and educators with your Bioblitz finds!

We will Tweet at or message the winners on iNaturalist in their comment section once the Bioblitz is over. We can't wait to see what you find!

  • Our bioblitz will be recorded through the free iNaturalist app and webpage. It’s an easy way to record your observations, get help identifying what you find, and contribute to the global scientific community! Your observations will be used by scientists and conservationists that are working to protect Southwest Florida’s unique plants and wildlife.
  • All you have to do is get outside as much as you can between April 1- April 30 and start taking pictures of the wildlife you find. Upload your observations to iNaturalist.org or through the iNaturalist app to COSWFL Bioblitz. That’s it! Then check out the bioblitz page on April 24th to see what all the participants found!
  • Watch the video here to learn how to use iNaturalist and then check out our instructions for further information. It's easy, we promise! Don't forget to look for any and everything living - from the very small to the very large. And have fun!
