April 8, 2025

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida’s Eagle Award is the organization’s highest honor, recognizing individuals or groups whose work and actions protect the natural environment and quality of life in Southwest Florida. The award aims to recognize outstanding leadership on environmental causes, philanthropic initiatives, and grassroots activism.

On February 25, 2025, at its joint Board and Conservancy Council meeting, the Conservancy bestowed its highest honor, the Eagle Award, on The Martin Foundation due to the foundation’s significant contributions to the Conservancy and its mission of protecting our land, water, wildlife, and future for over two decades. The foundation’s executive director, Emily Budd, was present to accept this esteemed award.

The Martin Foundation was established in 1953 by Geraldine “Geri” and Lee Martin to support civic charitable endeavors. When the couple retired to Naples, their philanthropy was felt immediately, including in the key areas of environmental and conservation priorities. “Geri Martin was someone who was willing to go into the field and learn firsthand the conservation challenges of our region. Furthermore, she and her family were willing to invest in initiatives to advance sustainability in its many dimensions,” stated Rob Moher, President & CEO.

“Her vision and passion resulted in numerous strategic philanthropic investments into the Conservancy programs and campus over the last 25 years. Now that tradition carries on with the next generation of Martin family members who oversee The Martin Foundation and remain committed to the principles of sustainability and conservation in our region.”

The Conservancy thanks The Martin Foundation for its crucial contributions to our mission of preserving our water, land, wildlife, and future.
