LOSOM comments submitted

September 13, 2022

Clean water is vital to Florida’s environment and economy. Helping to protect Florida’s water ecosystems remains a critical part of the Conservancy’s mission. We along with our partners at the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation recently submitted comments to the Army Corp of Engineers in regard to Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM) Draft Environmental Impact Statement.

LOSOM is not perfect, however, we believe that it is the most equitable solution for the needs of all stakeholders.

If the plan is adopted as it is currently drafted, it is our belief that it will result in an overall improvement for the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie Estuaries, Lake Okeechobee, and the Everglades, while also serving the needs of water supply.
