Picayune Strand

Picayune Strand Restoration Project is a major ecological and policy effort to repair decades of environmental damage caused by failed subdivision development. Once drained and scarred by canals and roads from an ill-fated real estate scheme, tens of thousands of acres of wetlands were consolidated into what became Picayune Strand State Forest and targeted for large-scale ecosystem restoration.
